Out of all of the subsets of people in the United States and around the world, the population of blind people has one of the lowest employment rates. I suppose that the reason for this is somewhat evident but it was a trend that my family and I very firmly decided to try and buck as soon as I knew that I would be losing my eyesight. It’s true that I was never going to be able to have any of a wide variety of “normal” jobs so I immediately started thinking outside the box. The end result is that I found a field in which to work where I have become very successful and I thank goodness every day that I did not decide to take the crumbs the government was willing to offer but, but instead, I forged my own path and made my own way.
